SCOPE
SITE PLAN

Southside Community School Gardens was a project for a southside charter school. The participants in this project were the University of Arizona's Collage of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, 5th year Architecture studio. The benefits of the design are: Promote outdoor learning for children through interactive gardens, provide shade, solutions for extreme drainage issues, provide a low maintenance and xeriscape design.

CONCEPT
PERSPECTIVES
The focus of this project was to provide an outdoor learning environment for children by using elements in the landscape as educational tools. Rocks, plant materials, water, etc can become the tools that help children learn about the natural environment . The goals of this project were to provide a variety of spaces including contemplative and formal spaces, outdoor gathering areas, natural areas for children to play and gardens that promote child involvement and interaction. SITE CONDITIONS
COMMUNITY SCHOOL GARDENS
Southside Community School is located in Tucson, Arizona. It is surrounded by remnants of the Sonoran Desert. Because the site has been severely bladed and is uphill to a small drainage area, if functions primarily as a drainage way. Currently there is a retention basin on site that is central on campus.
