CONCEPT
SITE PLAN Sunken Plaza/Berm Gardens (partial plan)
The concept was to create a botanical gardens for the University of Arizona. The focus was the dramatic use of desert plant materials. This was done in a variety of ways and in many different areas of the mall. Circulation and entertainment for students and visitors was a primary focus for the design. The design features included an Entrance Plaza, Sunken Plaza and Berm Gardens for Mckale Sports Arena, Desert Grasslands, Amphitheater, and a double allay flanking the 3000' mall. The design is inspired by the historic parts of the campus including the irrigation berms and the historic fountains.
SITE CONDITIONS
PERSPECTIVES

The University of Arizona grounds are an historic part of Tucson's heritage. The mall itself is a linear 3000' space that has been used for decades for sports activities, tailgating, fairs and more. With all its current uses it did not offer comfort or beauty.
